GET YOUR HOME READY FOR WINTER STORMS

Winter storms can affect the Traverse City area in unexpected ways – and lead to extensive damage to your home. To make sure you are prepared, Paul Davis Restoration & Remodeling of Northwest Michigan has a few tips for you to stay safe this winter.

  • Check for any loose shingles, siding, and fence boards and make any necessary repairs as soon as possible. These items can easily blow off in high winds.
  • Remove damaged parts of trees in your yard, especially those near buildings. To make sure large limbs and branches are handled safely, use a tree care professional.
  • Clear debris from gutters and downspouts so the drainage system can perform its function. Downspouts should direct water at least 5’ away from your home’s foundation. An emergency fix can be as simple as adding downspout extensions to those areas where the water is not carried far enough away. Not correcting these problems can lead to mold, flooding, and termites
  • Keep flashlights, camping lanterns, and/or headlamps in an easily accessible area if a power outage occurs. Make sure they all have fresh batteries, too.
  • Have an emergency supply of food and water. This will help sustain your family in the middle of a heavy storm.

Protect your family and home with these easy steps and sleep easier this winter. If you have additional questions about further measures you can take, contact Paul Davis Restoration & Remodeling of Northwest Michigan today.
